My Cultural Radar (Part 1)
The cultural snapshot I read in The Guardian: "My Radar" in the culture section was about the cultural highlights of Lennie James, according to the snapshot he's a British actor born in 1965 in Nottingham, who's now living with his family in Los Angeles. He talked about 6 cultural highlights for him:
Music: He named the Peterson Brother's and how unique their music is even if they're so young.
TV: He said he likes to watch British shows, especially when he misses his family in London, like Detectorists, a show that makes him feel at home.
Film: He talked about the movie Uncut Games, a story about a New York jeweler, played by Adam Sandler, he reflected on the movie and described it as a very tense film.
Art: He talked about how great an artist Zak Ovés is. His works in found material, mixed media, sculpture and photography and the themes he works on African Diaspora and Caribbean legends.
The radio: He talked about Desert Island Discs and one of the recent episodes with Ian Wright, noting how good, honest and revealing it was.
Book: He talked about a book he is re-reading, it's called Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times by Thomas Hauser because to him he's like a hero and the book is almost like a documentary with the opinion of people who were close to Ali. He's re-reading it as a kind of research to write something.
I chose this snapshot because I really like Lennie's acting, especially in The Walking Dead and I wanted to know more about him personally, of all the things he talked about the most interesting thing to me was when he mentions that he watches British shows to feel close to his home and family, I think it's really cute how a show can make him remember and connect with his memories and think that maybe the movies and series he acts in have also helped remind other people of their home.
